Butte College IDEA Case Study

May 9, 2024 — by tehamagroup

Butte College’s Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism and Accessibility (IDEAA) commits to offering resources, information and support to minority students. Our goal was to raise awareness of events and resources around campus and write newsletter stories highlighting faculty and on topics relating to the office’s commitments.

Projects Worked On:

  • Creating merchandise
  • Building brand awareness through social media
  • Creating a physical and digital newsletter
  • Boosting social media visibility and digital engagement

The IDEAA Office’s vision is to create a campus that respects all identities, which means educating students on their community and communities they may not be a part of. Social media posts focused on recognition and respect for various cultures’ holidays and significant figures. In addition, posts highlighted events going on within the IDEAA Office and campus that were relevant to the organization’s target audience.

The U in Butte newsletter spotlights topics relevant to DEI in pop culture, current events and the college’s campus. Accessibility in relation to DEI was a big focus in both social media posts as well as the newsletter. The stories in the newsletter also provided insight from faculty members on topics such as allyship, anti-DEI legislation affecting college campuses and underrepresented students. We aimed to help the office promote inclusivity, action and respect for all communities.

Deliverables:

  • Social media content
  • Digital U in Butte newsletter
  • Print U in Butte newsletter teaser
  • Stickers, socks, t-shirts, tote bags and sunglasses
  • Eight newsletter stories
  • Photography
  • Cultural appropriation flier
