In preparation for graduation, I felt that my online design portfolio was adequate in displaying my design aesthetic and range of skills. Through my courses leading to my present status as a graduating senior, I found that I lacked a strong portfolio. As a student, I learn through instruction, but also through my own mistakes. I have been taught that my portfolio itself is a design and must be functional in reflecting who I am as a designer.

How to create a social media strategy to impress your client

You have an assignment due tomorrow but instead of doing the assignment you fill your time mindlessly scrolling through your Instagram  feed. You tell yourself, “It’s just a 15-minute  break” but that 15-minute  break quickly turns into an hour of scrolling through makeup tutorials on Instagram. Use of social media sites can often cause more harm than good but if used to a company’s advantage it can be a good tool to increase visibility and connections with their audience. This semester I got the opportunity to run social media, specifically Facebook, for my client. It wasn’t an easy task but here are some tips I learned along the way.

Seniors: How To Help Your Career During Quarantine

The Class of 2020 will forever be remembered as the Class of Quarantine. As Chico State seniors return from spring break to online classes, it can seem like school is optional right now, but that isn’t the case at all. The pandemic has brought the world to a standstill where a lot of us don’t know what our future holds. As we watch the brave frontline of responders try to get a hold of this virus, a lot of us are forced to stay home and can start feeling lost. Our timelines have shifted, our classes look different and those job applications may not seem so promising anymore, but it doesn’t mean we should stop working toward our goals.

Keep Calm and Carry On: How to focus on your goals when it feels like the world is ending

It can be hard to stay calm in times of such uncertainty, but it’s not impossible

“Normal” is a word that no longer holds much meaning to those of us around the world who functioned on a schedule. Here at Chico State, as with everywhere else, we have a lot to come to terms with. Graduating seniors may never set foot on campus again. Our commencement has been indefinitely postponed. Plans for summer travel, studies or internships have been all but abandoned. Some of us that have received job offers have seen those offers revoked and some of us who have yet to start our job hunts find ourselves looking at a bleak market. Covid-19 hit hard and fast and, apparently, the worst is yet to come. It’s difficult to swallow the consensus of specialists that the fall out from this virus will last months at a minimum, not weeks, but the notion that our lives are to remain abnormal for the foreseeable future is finally settling into our accepted realities.
